Restoration The Smokecurtain
Hedwig Braam, student of the master Conservation and Restoration Modern and Contemporary Art, investigates methods for restoring The Smokecurtain of artist Fransje Killaars. Fransje Killaars stayed at Het Vijfde Seizoen in the Summer of 1999, where she made the smoke curtain with patients of the mental health care institution. The work consists of brightly colored acrylic wires, to which thousands of cigarettes are attached. During her volunteer work for the residency, Braam became interested in the work. For her master thesis she is now investigating the fragile piece. Fellow student Eline van der Velde is supporting her during this research.
