Claire Harvey
Summer 2018
During the summer, Claire Harvey stayed at the Fifth Season. Harvey is known for painting figures on transparencies, tape, slides and post-its and directly on the wall, while incorporating every last fixture and edge of material in a prismatic interplay between image and object.
Seemingly isolated and delicate stories can be emphasized and given a new perspective with the use of projection, placement and light. Together with a cast of painted characters Harvey explored The Fifth Season and created a space for discovery and wonder that patients of the institute may encounter.
The construction of micro narratives can provide portals through which one can peer into a complex world and with imagination we can travel with and beyond the surface of things.
Claire Harvey is a British born artist. Beyond a post-graduate diploma from Chelsea College of Arts in London, she has been artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, Iaspis in Stockholm, Art Omi in Ghent, NY and most recently The VSC in Vermont.
