Lisette Verkerk
Winter/Spring 2006
For Lisette Verkerk, the world of psychiatry was unknown territory. During her exploration of life on the grounds of Willem Arntsz hoeve, she struck up a conversation with a man who had mutilated himself by scratching the words 'heaven' and 'hell' into his skin. This meeting was the beginning of her project 'Heaven Hell', about automutilation and isolation. Lisette was allowed to photograph the wounds and mutilations of some women. She then made an artwork of the photos of each woman, concluding the project with a booklet featuring the photographs of the mutilations and the artworks.
