Mella Jaarsma & Yudi Tajudin
Summer 2010
The visual artist Mella Jaarsma and the theater director Yudi Ahmad Tajudin both live in Indonesia, where the shadow is an important part of culture. In Indonesia, the word shadow means ‘image’ or ‘imagination’. During their time in the pavilion, they captured images of the shadows of the residents. The residents shared what a shadow means to them and what is ‘inside’ or ‘outside’ for them. These texts have been incorporated into an installation/performance with inner and outer shadows. One of the residents has composed a beautiful piano piece based on this theme.
In collaboration with Ladka, Dirk Jan, Marjan, Hans, Helma, Paul, Pelle, Myrel, Lianne and Peter.
