Het Vijfde Seizoen

Emmeline de Mooij & Adriaan Mellegers

Spring 2015

Emmeline de Mooij (artists) and Adriaan Mellegers (graphic designer) worked in Het Vijfde Seizoen on their sciencefiction-project 'After the Future'.

They writed a scenario that formed the basis for a video, a book and spatial work. Together with the patients of Willem Arntsz Hoeve, they developed their project. According to the artists: “The power of science-fiction lies in the fact that no attempt is made to describe the reality. Instead, by using fantasy a story is told which gives a sharp analyses of our reality due to the freedom of fiction."

It is the second time that Mellegers and De Mooij have worked together. The result of their project is according to them an example of a cross-fertilization of disciplines. In their work, the artists want to depict a shared vision and combine the different qualities of their work. The combination of graphic abstraction, sharply contrasting colours and rigid vs organic approach will deliver an visually exciting work.

Emmeline de Mooij received her training at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In 2004, she did her MFA at Bard College, Annandale-On-Hudson. in 2014, she was nominated for the Volkskrant Fine Art Prize in 2013 for the Prix de Rome.

Adriaan Mellegers studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and was a resident at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht from 2003- 2005. In addition to his work as graphic designer, he makes publications (on assignment). Mellegers is also a lecturer at the Royal Academy in The Hague.

De Mooi and Mellegers started working together during a residency in Prague in 2013.
