Alwine van Heemstra
Winter 2001/2002
Alwine van Heemstra stayed with her husband Berend Strik and their son, Matthew, for a winter in Het Vijfde Seizoen. Van Heemstra wrote a radio documentary on the perils surrouding the relocation of the oecumenical chapel of the hospital. She turned Het Vijfde Seizoen into a meeting place for patients and guests of herself and her husband. This way she met Helma Zindel, who had lived in the clinic for ten years and who draws and paints herself. The decision was made to organize an exhibition of Helma's work in Het Vijfde Seizoen. At the opening almost all works were sold to other patients, visitors and therapists. As a farewell Alwine van Heemstra and Berend Strik organized a disco evening with rapping patients, and Strik on the drums.
Berend Strik developed the project 'Jeltje', in which he explores architecture for people with a mental disorder. Jeltje is the name of a building that is being demolished. It should be replaced by a building that not only connects perfectly to the individual needs of patients, but also plays a role in the developments of architecture.
