Ola Vasiljeva
Spring 2014
With the installation Algia Naturalis, Ola Vasiljeva ended her work period in Het Vijfde Seizoen that ran from April till June 2014. During the opening her publication with the same title was presented with the corresponding EP. Till the end of june 2014, Algia Naturalis could be viewed through appointment.
Algia Naturalis is based on the mental state of plants that grow in the wooded area of the institution. Vasiljeva assumed that plants know feelings. She related it with the psyche of people and implemented its findings in the surreal installation. As part of Algia Naturalis, Vasiljeva made a composition in collaboration with a French composer Christelle Gualdi. They recorded and processed sounds of Willem Arntsz Hoeve and the texts by the residents of the institution.
In 2009 Vasiljeva created the artist collective The Oceans Academy for Arts (OAOA) through which she delivers publications and performances. Ola Vasiljeva was one of the finalist for the Prix de Rome 2013. Her work can been seen nationally and internationally, among other this year in a solo exhibition at Art in General (NY) and group exhibitions at the Lisson Gallery (2013) and Badischer Kunstverein in Karlsruke (2014). In the Netherlands, her work is represented by Galerie van Gelder, Amsterdam.
She studied at Croydon College in London and at the School of the Arts Utrecht. Afterwards she took a residency at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam (2008-2009) and the EKWC in Den Bosch in 2011.
