HOW TO DEVELOP AUTONOMOUS WORK IN THE SOCIAL DOMAIN?
Leading topic: language and psychiatry
Location: Beautiful Distress, Amsterdam and residency The Fifth Season, Den Dolder, Utrecht (work and exhibition space)
Students: Open for all disciplines, from 3rd year on. (BA / MA / alumni)
Depending on your school a number of ECT points is granted
Programme: 10.00 - 21.00 each day except weekend

INFORMATION:

Het Vijfde Seizoen is an artist residency located at one of the oldest mental health institutes in The Netherlands in Den Dolder (Utrecht). Since 2018 the residency has an exhibition space together with Beautiful Distress Foundation in Amsterdam.

In 2017 the residency started a Summer School for art students. Former residents of The Fifth Season Marieke Zwart and Dirk van Lieshout are the coaches of this Summer School. At Summer School you’ll be challenged to work with the specific conditions of the social domain.

Starting point is the research of Gerwin Luijendijk, Marianna Maruyama and Jan Adriaans during their Spring 2018 residency. Their research focuses on creating a shared, alternative language.
The following topics will be treated:

What is the relation between power structures and language?

How can language be inclusive without denying individual qualities?

How can technology help us create a new (visual) language?
During eight days you will be inspired by these and other questions in a programme of excursions, lectures by guest teachers, assignments and debate. Last years guest were artists and psychiatrists: Annaleen Louwes, Bik van der Pol, Laurence Aegerter (Fr/NL) , Etcetera (AR), Sayaka Abe (JP), Esther Vossen, Wilco Tuinebreijer, Durf te Dromen, Altrecht GGZ.
The process and results will be on show at Beautiful Distress in Amsterdam from 8 July - 26 August.
